gr/en: What is happening in Greece / Αυτά που συμβαίνουν στην Ελλάδα

On 17th December 2008, a group of young people (probably students) took control of the national broadcasting TV channer called NET, one of the national TV channels of Greece. Without using any violence as we heard, took control of the studio and interrupted the regular program of the channel which was showing a speech given in the Greek parliament by the Prime Minister, Mr.Karamanlis. The group of youngsters stood silently for a couple of minutes holding a huge panel which declared: «Freedom to all arrested people - Stop watching and get out in the streets».
Mr. Panagopoulos, who apparently has not yet resigned (something tells me he not gonna), gave the declaration given to him by the group of youngsters who prevented him from getting out of his office to unblock the taking over of the studio. The declaration was not signed and included the following:

«This action of ours is a result of a steaming pressure eating up our lives. It is not just an emotional explosion because of the sudden murder of Alexandros Grigoropoulos by the police. We are one more group of people, a part of the revolution taking place. 

» We are making an interference on ERT's broadcasting program as an action against the informative media. We consider that the media are constantly feeding fear and instead of informing they mislead. They chose to present a polymorphic revolution as if it is just a blind explosion of emotions.

» There is an effort by the media to explain and analyze a social revolution with penal instead of political terms. The true facts are being selectively hidden. This revolution is presented by the media as another TV show which we are suppose to watch before the next serial. The mass media are turning into means of repression of free and creative thinking. 

» We need to get organized. No genius can offer any solutions to our problems. We need to meet with other people. We need to turn public spaces – streets, squares, parks, schools and colleges -into spaces of liberal expression. We need to meet up face-to-face, to form our speech and our action. 

» We need not to fear, we need to switch off our TV sets, get out of our homes, continue claiming what is right, we need to get control of our lives. We denounce police violence – We demand freedom for all arrested protestors. For human liberation and freedom.»

Σύμφωνα με τα λεγόμενα του κ. Παναγόπουλου, προέδρου της ΕΡΤ ΑΕ, το κείμενο των ατόμων που εισέβαλαν στο δελτίο της ΝΕΤ στις 17 Δεκεμβρίου αναφέρει τα εξής:

«Η δράση μας είναι αποτέλεσμα μίας συσσωρευμένης πίεσης που λεηλατεί τις ζωές μας και όχι μόνο μία συγκινησιακή έκρηξη με αφορμή τη δολοφονία του Αλέξη Γρηγορόπουλου από την αστυνομία. Είμαστε μία ακόμη συλλογικότητα, κομμάτι της εξέγερσης που συμβαίνει.

» Ενάντια στην εξημέρωση από τα ΜΜΕ, προβαίνουμε σε παρέμβαση-παρεμβολή στη ροή του προγράμματος της ΕΡΤ. Θεωρούμε ότι τα ΜΜΕ συστηματικά καλλιεργούν το φόβο. Αντί να ενημερώνουν παραπληροφορούν. Παρουσιάζουν μια πολύμορφη εξέγερση σαν τυφλή εκτόνωση.

» Εξηγούν την κοινωνική έκρηξη με όρους ποινικούς και όχι πολιτικούς. Αποκρύπτουν επιλεκτικά τα πραγματικά γεγονότα. Προβάλλουν μία εξέγερση σαν ένα ακόμη θέαμα που πρέπει απλά να παρακολουθούμε μέχρι να αρχίσει το επόμενο σήριαλ. Τα ΜΜΕ μετατρέπονται καθημερινά σε μέσα καταστολής της ελεύθερης και δημιουργικής σκέψης.

» Να αυτοοργανωθούμε. Καμία αυθεντία δεν μπορεί να προσφέρει λύσεις στα προβλήματά μας. Χρειάζεται να συναντηθούμε με άλλους ανθρώπους. Να μετατρέψουμε τους δημόσιους χώρους – τους δρόμους, τις πλατείες, τα πάρκα, τις σχολές -σε χώρους αδιαμεσολάβητης έκφρασης. Να βρεθούμε πρόσωπο με πρόσωπο για να συνδιαμορφώσουμε τον λόγο και τις δράσεις μας.

» Να μην φοβηθούμε, να κλείσουμε τις τηλεοράσεις, να βγούμε από τα σπίτια μας, να συνεχίσουμε να διεκδικούμε, να πάρουμε τη ζωή στα χέρια μας. Καταγγέλλουμε την αστυνομική βία – Αμεση αποφυλάκιση των συλληφθέντων διαδηλωτών. Για την ανθρώπινη χειραφέτηση και την ελευθερία.»
